Sonoma Coast AVA |
The Sonoma Coast AVA sprawls for 750 square miles from San Pablo Bay up the northern California coast to the Mendocino County line and heads east over the Coastal Ranges. This is a rugged, sparsely populated region with high wave pounded, often fog shrouded cliffs; mountain tops and valleys. The days are spectacularly, brilliantly bright when the fog goes out to sea.
Carneros, Dry Creek Valley, Green Valley, Russian River Valley AVAs are the AVAs that are dotted along Sonoma Coast's eastern flank. The Sonoma Coast AVA shares the city of Santa Rosa with the Russian River Valley AVA. If you come to experience the wineries and their tasting rooms first hand, then Santa Rosa makes for a great home base to work from. You can enjoy a range of hotels, bed and breakfasts and resorts for a comfortable stay
Terroir
The Russian River and the Petaluma Wind Gap are major conduits for cold air and fog that filter into the further reaches of the Coastal Ranges. Green Valley AVA also overlaps with the Sonoma Coast, as does Carneros.
